Harry Findlay has six-month ban overturned by BHA appeal panel

• Six-month disqualification quashed in favour of £4,500 fine • Leading owner says result is “great for me and for racing” Harry Findlay, the leading owner and professional gambler, has won his appeal against a six-month disqualification from the sport imposed by the British Horseracing Authority’s disciplinary panel last month for laying a horse in his ownership on the Betfair betting exchange. Findlay’s ban has been reduced to a fine of £4,500, the amount by which his in-running lay bets on Gullible Gordon in a race at Chepstow in 2009 improved his winning position when Gullible Gordon proved successful. In both this contest and another race at Exeter when he also laid Gullible Gordon – a bet that Findlay himself brought to the attention of the authorities – Findlay was a substantial net backer of his horse, in that he stood to win far more if Gullible Gordon was the winner than if he was beaten
